A breast lift, also called mastopexy is the surgical procedure that would correct the dropping or sagging of the breasts. Women may find that their breasts may change over time and this could be the result of aging, weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity or heredity.
The breast lift procedure at our Toronto clinic will correct the sagging of the breast tissue and reposition the nipple back up to the original position onto the front of the breast. This procedure will remove excessive skin to reshape and give new contour to the breast. The areola can be reduced if it has been enlarged. The breast lift procedure will not add volume to the upper part of the breast or change the size. Commonly, Dr. Beber’s patients choose to have a combination of both the breast lift procedure with the breast augmentation (breast implants) or the breast reduction procedure to get the tailored breast volume desired. Additionally, a breast lift surgery can be combined with a tummy tuck procedure (abdominoplasty) to achieve a more enhanced contouring result, commonly called the Mommy Makeover procedure.
A good candidate for breast lift surgery is someone who is concerned with the loss of volume and shape of their breasts, has breasts that are elongated or pendulous and flat, has nipples that fall below the breast crease and areolas that are pointed downwards and / or enlarged.
When considering surgery, as with all surgeries, you should be in good health, not smoke and have realistic expectations.
During your consultation for the breast lift surgery in Toronto,Ontraio, Dr. Beber will evaluate your general health, review the risks associated with this procedure and associated risks based on your pre-existing health conditions. Dr. Beber will examine your breasts and make detailed measurements of the shape and size, position of your nipples and areolas including your skin quality. Photographs will be taken at this time for your medical record. All patients booked for surgery will have a pre-operative assessment with Dr. Beber approximately 4-6 weeks before surgery. At this appointment, patients having breast lift surgery will have the opportunity to review the procedure with Dr. Beber. Pre-operative instructions will be reviewed and all your questions will be answered at that time. Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications and herbals supplements that could thin your blood and increase bleeding at least weeks before surgery.
Breast lifts in our Toronto clinic are performed on a day surgery basis at an accredited facility either at Toronto East General Hospital / Michael Garron Hospital or Women’s College Hospital. Patient will be able to return home that very day. Patients are up and moving immediately after surgery and resume normal activities within a few short days.
Exercise and strenuous activity can be resumed within 3 or 4 weeks. It is important to note that breast lifting procedures involve incisions around the edge of the areola and usually there is a vertical scar down the front of the breast. These scars become lighter in color over time and less noticeable, but they are permanent. However, for Dr. Beber’s patients who chose to have breast lift surgery in Toronto, the scars are worth the benefit of having lifted, more youthful breasts.
