Let's tackle a common concern that affects a lot of us - hair thinning and hair loss. Learning about medical-based treatment solutions can feel a little intimidating, so we’ve broken down some of our most-asked questions.
1)Why do I have hair loss? Is PRP right for me?
Hair thinning and hair loss happens for many different reasons, at many different stages of life for both men and women. Heredity, health and traction alopecia are some of the main causes of hair loss, however each patient is unique.
Fun fact: contrary to popular belief, hair loss does not come from your maternal side, rather from both. (sorry, Mom!)
2)Does it really work?
While results vary from patient to patient, we find that the overwhelming majority of our patients are extremely satisfied with their results. Results are gradual and cumulative, however and patience is key. Full results are not seen until at least six months after your final session.
3)Is it painful?
The majority of our patients find PRP hair treatments uncomfortable but very tolerable. We apply a topical anesthetic to make the process more pleasant, however some patients find this treatment mild enough to not require any numbing at all. For our patients with extremely sensitive scalps we also offer nitrous oxide(laughing gas) similar to what you may have experienced at the dentist, to help your session be as enjoyable as possible.
4) How many treatments do I need?
PRP for hair restoration is not a “one and done” deal, rather a series of three to five sessions are recommended for optimal results, based on a full consultation and assessment with a plastic surgeon in Toronto. Treatments are spaced out to once every three to six weeks in order to treat during the ideal stage of hair growth. Maintenance treatments are required generally once every four to six months to maintain results.
